The corner that explains everything

I'd been putting off a difficult conversation for weeks now, wanting to feel ready. But ready rarely comes. So the conversation sat there, heavy and waiting, while I circled around it.

This week's Torah portion, Bo (Exodus 10:1-13:16), contains a curious word choice that got my attention. God tells Moses "בֹּא אֶל פַּרְעֹה" - "Come to Pharaoh." Not "go." Come. The Zohar explains: God is saying "Come with me. I will accompany you into this darkness."

Moses wasn't ready either. He was terrified to face Pharaoh alone. But he didn't have to.

If you've been waiting to feel ready before tackling something hard - a habit, a healing, a new direction - you're not alone. And you're not meant to do it alone.

The narrow places within us (Mitzrayim, Egypt, literally means "narrow straits") don't expand through willpower. They expand when we stop trying to go alone and let ourselves be accompanied.

Not going it alone also means setting up your space to invite divine presence to accompany you. Trust me, your home is rooting for you! This week, we work with the Wisdom corner - the area of your home that supports exactly this kind of inner expansion.

WORKING WITH THE WISDOM CORNER (GUA 8)

The Wisdom corner (bottom-left when facing into your home from the front door) governs knowledge, spiritual growth, and the quiet inner work of becoming. In feng shui, it's associated with the mountain - Gen - the energy of stillness that allows insight to arise.

This gua is powerful when we’re working with New Year's intentions, studying any new subject, or are ready to release patterns that no longer fit who we’re becoming.

When this area is cramped, dark, or cluttered with outdated materials, our capacity for self-reflection shrinks. We stay stuck in old versions of ourselves.

If you can't work with this area of your home directly (maybe it falls in a closet), try working with the Wisdom corner of your living room or bedroom instead - just orient from the primary entrance to that room.

THE PRACTICE

This week, work with your Wisdom corner to expand the narrow places within.

Sunday (Yang/Sun)

If this space feels compressed - physically or otherwise - ADD a mirror. Position it to reflect something you want to "double" in your life.

Monday (Yin/Moon)

OBSERVE what first captures your attention in this area every time you walk in. Does it reflect who you were or who you're becoming?

Tuesday (Fire/Joy)

CLEAR one item that represents an old identity you've outgrown. Thank it and release it.

Wednesday (Water/Flow)

ADD an image or object that embodies the direction you're growing into - creating the kind of space that makes visitors curious about your journey.

Thursday (Wood/Growth)

TEND to any books or learning materials. Donate what's complete; organize what's active.

Friday (Metal/Structure)

LIGHT incense in this corner - frankincense for spiritual guidance or rosemary for mental clarity. Notice: is there divine presence here, accompanying you?

Saturday (Earth/Grounding)

REST. Simply acknowledge you don't have to be ready. You just have to come.
